- Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer for 2 minutes. Add stock cubes and water, simmer for 5 minutes.
- Once the sauce thickens, make a well with your cooking stick and break the egg into the empty space. Make a well for every egg you want to use. I used 3 so made 3 wells.
- Cover and cook on low till the egg is ready. May take 3-7 min depending on how well done you want your egg. Sprinkle basil on top and Serve hot over some rice, pasta or even with salad.
- You can add dhania or shredded cheese once the egg is cooked and just let it melt into it.
Shakshuka (pronounced shahk-shoo-kah, emphasis on the middle syllable) is an Israeli dish of eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce. So I often serve this dish for dinner. And while the spicy tomato sauce and runny egg yolks practically beg for crusty bread, bread is not mandatory!
