- Make ready 6 chicken drumsticks
- Prepare 1 cup fried onions
- Prepare 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- Take 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- Get 1/2 tbsp chilli powder
- Take 1 tsp coriander powder
- Prepare 2 tbsp tomato paste
- Take 1/4 tsp nutmeg powder
- Take to taste Salt
- Make ready 5 cardamoms
- Prepare 2 cinnamon sticks medium size
- Prepare 2 bay leaves
- Make ready 3 cloves
- Prepare 3 tbsp vegetable oil or butter
Bhuna is a method of cooking where you cook onions, tomatoes and meat over high heat - stirring until all the liquid dries up. This Slow Cooked Chicken Bhuna is a wonderfully easy peasy, low effort, recipe. Simply fry up some onions, garlic and a few spices. Next, throw in some chicken and tinned tomatoes and bring to the boil.
Steps to make Chicken bhuna:
- Take a deep pan. Pour oil. When the oil is hot add whole spices that is cardamom, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks and cloves. Put the flame in low. Fry them until the fragrance comes out.
- Now add all the drumsticks. Add some salt and fry them for couple of minutes. Then add ginger garlic paste. Mix them well. Then add rest of the ingredients. Add fried onions as well. Now keep stirring them until they get mixed with all the spices.
- Keep the flame in medium. Put the lid on. After 10mins take off the lid and check if you need to add water. Normally chicken can be cooked with its own water. But if needed can add some water. When the gravy will get thick and oil will come out that means it’s cooked. At the end you can garnish with some fried onions. It can be served with rice or Paratha or roti. 😌
And finally, transfer to your oven or slow cooker to do the rest. This bhuna chicken is liked by many as a side dish to roti recipes and can also be eaten along with rice. We need to use large quantity of onions to get the gravy and have to keep roasting this recipe on medium flame and then finally tenderizing the chicken on low flame. This was a really tasy curry and sooo easy to make. In all it was great and just as good as from my local indian.
