Okonomiyaki (literally means 'grilled as you like it') is a savory version of Japanese pancake, made with flour, eggs, shredded cabbage, meat/ protein and topped with a variety of condiments. Okonomiyaki o-konomi-yaki is a Japanese savory pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi.

To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few ingredients. You can have okonomiyaki using 15 ingredients and 5 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Okonomiyaki:
  1. Get cabbage (mince into 1 cm cubes)
  2. Prepare pork slices (belly is good but use a part suited to your taste)
  3. Prepare red pickled ginger, chopped (to taste)
  4. Take *80 g flour
  5. Take *1/2 tsp salt
  6. Prepare *1 tsp sugar
  7. Get sauce
  8. Take dashi (or 120ml water + 2 tsp dashi powder)
  9. Take egg
  10. Make ready sesame (vegetable) oil
  11. Make ready For topping (as much as you like):
  12. Get Dried bonito flakes
  13. Take Green laver/aonori
  14. Make ready Mayonnaise
  15. Take Worcester sauce

  2. Put cabbage, red pickled ginger into the mix from step 1 and mix 20 times. And then put in the egg and mix 10 times.
  3. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat and pour in the mixture. Place slices of pork on top and cook it for about 5 mins with lid until well browned and flip over.
  4. Cook on the other side for 5~6 mins with lid. And flip over again and cook for 2~3 mins without lid.
  5. Pour Worcester sauce and mayonnaise over it and garnish with dried bonito flakes and green laver as much as you like.

You do not need okonomiyaki sauce or tonkatsu sauce. Okonomiyaki is one of my favorite savory pancake, hands down! Okonomiyaki's origin is Osaka and Hiroshima and today I'm sharing Osaka style which is more simpler and easier to make!
