Steps to make Roll-Out Sugar Cookies:
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour and baking powder, and add to the mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition. (you made need to add more flour)
  4. Divide the dough into 2 balls.
  5. Roll out to 1/8 inch thickness onto a floured surface.
  6. Cute into shapes with any kind of cookie cutters. (I used Halloween ones)
  7. Place on a cookie sheet and bake for 6-10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly brown.
  8. Cool completely. Decorate as desired.

Too Sticky: Until I started using the recipe for my favorite roll out sugar cookies, I could never use cookie cutters without the dough sticking. I realized that whatever you do to try and fix them, most pre-packaged sugar cookie doughs and certain homemade recipes just aren't meant for roll out sugar cookies. As far back as I can remember, every December we'd get together with our cousins and make Christmas cookies, and I have carried on the tradition with my five kids! Yes, this is on the thicker side and yes, this produces extra thick and soft cookies! If rolling out cookie dough doesn't sound appealing, try my drop sugar cookies instead.
