- Take 1/3 cup moong dal (Yellow)
- Make ready 1/2 cup Tur dal
- Take 2 cup beet root leaves chopped
- Prepare 1/2 cup tomatoes chopped

- Get 2 tbsp oil
- Take 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- Prepare 1 tbsp chilli garlic ginger paste
- Take 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
- Make ready 1 tsp red chilli powder
- Get 1 tsp turmeric powder
- Prepare 1 tsp coriander powder
- Take 1 tsp garam masala powder
- Get 1 tsp ghee
- Get as needed coriander leaves for garnishing

Steps to make Beet root leaves with dal:
- Pressure cook (or boil) the daal with the little bit haldi powder
- In a pan heat oil add the cumin seeds once they start popping add chilli garlic ginger paste and onion fry till onions turn golden brown add the chopped tomatoes and beet root leaves sauté the above mixture till it turns soft and golden
- Add all dry masala powder and garam masala powder
- Add the boiled daal mix to the above mix well remove from the flame add 1 tsp ghee garnish with fresh coriander leaves
- Enjoy with Rice or roti or paratha
Turn off the stove once the dal is cooked completely. You can add some coriander leaves if desired. Serve beetroot stir fry with plain rice. Beetroot kootu is a very nutritious and healthy dish that can be served with either white rice or with rotis or any Indian bread. Kootu is a very traditional food served in Tamil Nadu as a part of lunch menu and no feast (virundhu) is complete without kootu.
