Chicken tikka masala is a dish of marinated and broiled chunks of chicken in a creamy, spice-infused tomato sauce. Steps to make Chicken tikka masala:
- In a large bowl with chicken add yogurt, lemon juice. Stir in 1/2 of garam masala spice (see above ingredients). Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Add oil to preheated pan. Cut chilli in small pieces and saute for a minute. Turn down to medium heat. Now add crushed garlic and ginger fry for 2 minutes till they turn slightly brown.
- Add the onion and sauté, stirring occasionally, until light brown and caramelized, about 5 minutes. Now add the rest of garam masala spice(see above) and mix well for 2-5 minutes.
- Add tomatoes and stir. Turn heat very low, stir occasionally, cook till tomatoes get mushy. Lastly add the teaspoon of tomato paste. (Patience here, can take up to 20-25 minutes of your time!)
- Now turn up heat and add marinated chicken, stir well. Cook from all sides for 5-8 minutes. Simmer on low heat until sauce thickens, about 20 minutes.
- The chicken should be cooked now and sauce will have thickened. Lastly add cream and stir well! Transfer to a serving platter, and garnish with fresh cilantro.
Slice the chicken into bite-sized chunks. Combine the cubed chicken with the yogurt, lemon juice, garlic, ginger, salt, cumin, garam masala, and paprika and stir until well-coated. Line a high-sided baking pan or roasting tray with parchment paper. Chicken Tikka Masala is creamy and easy to make right at home in one pan with simple ingredients!
