  1. Wash and soak basmati rice for 1 hour.Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil /ghee in a pan.Slice 2 onions longitudinally and fry till golden brown.Take out and keep aside.
  3. Chopped 2 remaining onions,fry in the remaining oil.Fry till golden.Add ginger garlic paste and green chillies..Saute for 1 minute.
  4. Add chicken,all powdered spices and all coarsely ground spices.Add bay leaves also.Stir and add curd.
  5. Add salt and 1 cup water cover and cook for 5 minutes on medium flame.After 5 minutes open the lid,stir the chicken well and cook till oil separates.
  6. Add basmati rice and 4 cups of hot water to the chicken.Cover and cook on high flame till boil.
  7. Lower the flame to sim and cook till rice is done.Add kewra water.Dissolve orange food colour in 1/4cup milk and pour over biryani.Cover the lid and leave for 10 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fried onion and serve hot with raita /salad.
